September 10th marks the annual World Suicide Prevention day.
The Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council will be hosting their annual event in and around the Victoria Park pavilion in Kitchener.
Activities include short interactive presentations throughout the afternoon highlighting some agencies. Activities will also include a musical interlude, interactive activities in the park, Therapy Dogs, BBQ, community presentation, and ending with the Butterfly Release at 4:30.
A number of community partners (including Life Voice) will have information on display within the pavilion.
At Life Voice’s display you will find a sketch/note book where you can let your Life Voice be heard, or write something encouraging for someone else to read. There will also be a booklet of local, national, and international crisis supports, a list of upcoming workshops, and a knitting basket for those who could benefit from some tactile self-care throughout the day.
You can also participant in World Suicide Prevention Day by lighting a candle (or using a battery operated one) at 8:00pm, and shining it in your window. This acts as a symbol of hope for those living with suicidal ideation, and is in remembrance of those precious lives lost to suicide, and those struggling through suicide bereavement.
