It’s a henna-kind-of self care Saturday

Dec 2, 2017 | Selfcare practices and resiliency

It’s been a henna-kind-of self care Saturday. In fact, it’s been a henna-kind-of self care week!

You may have noticed that our daily inspirations have not been so consistent.  What happened? Well, although our main site was not hacked, some of the sites under our main host were which led to all sites under that host being shut down. I also went to…prison this week. It’s true. But, that’s a story on to itself. So, be sure to tune in daily because I’m going to be unpacking this past week’s events over the coming one.

In the meantime, here’s what we’re doing this Saturday. Henna, with mehandi cones. This has kept my sanity this past week. With kids. With work. With business. With hackers. With prison! With all that went out of my control henna was a little thing I could put into my control. And really, that’s a key element for a worst-case-scenario situation like suicide. You’ll never hear me say in a workshop that our job is to save someone else’s life; because it isn’t. Our job is to help someone save their own life. And how we do that is by putting elements of healthy control back in their hands when they feel like life has taken too much control from them. If we don’t do that, sometimes people default to the decision they can make…to the control they can have…suicide. That doesn’t mean that’s what they want to do. That means that’s a decision they can make. Which is why it’s exponentially vital that we empower the person-at-risk as much as possible. It doesn’t need to be complex. It can be as simple as having a henna self-care Saturday where they get to decide what to design on themselves. The important element is that they’ve got to control something.

PS – I continue to self-care with mehendi. My original handwork has turned into a semicolon project. If you’re not familiar with the significance of the semicolon and suicide prevention click here to read all about the powerful symbolism of the semicolon and the semicolon project.
