HOW MUSIC THERAPY HELPS WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA, PARKINSON’S, AND DEPRESSION

Need a boost today? Try some music therapy. According to the US national institute of health numerous studies have shown that music therapy treatment improved “global and social functioning in schizophrenia and/or serious mental disorders, gait and related activities in Parkinson‘s disease. Speaking of which, did you know Guelph has a dance class for those living with Parkinson’s? It’s called Park’n Dance.

Music therapy can also improve depressive symptoms, and sleep quality.

Guelph also has a talented, world travelling music therapist named Gary Diggins who ironically works out of a studio called Silence near downtown.

YOUTUBE AND MUSIC THERAPY

Need a boost quick? Try James Cordon’s carpool karaoke ? ? on YouTube which has a wide genre mix with the added bonus of humour. Laughter is good medicine for the soul. We recommend starting with the Red Hot Chili Peppers video,

or if you’re a Beatles fan try the one with Paul McCartney.

Need some girl power? Try Kelly Clarkson…

or First Lady, Michelle Obama.

Which carpool karaoke is your favourite?

If that’s not your thing why not pick up your own instrument. Strum your way through your day, or hit the piano keys. Belt out your own tune. Or pound a drum.

GET A DOSE OF MUSIC THERAPY AT HILLSIDE!

Hillside Festival is this weekend in Guelph, and will be filled with music ? all over the island with performances for the whole family.
