June 21st is National Indigenous People’s Day!
Today, and every day, we acknowledge that the land our workshops are hosted from is traditionally known as Thadinadonnih. We are on the traditional lands of the Attawandaron, Anishinaabek, and Haudenosaunee peoples, and on the treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, today known as Guelph. We recognize the deep wisdom of the Dish With One Spoon covenant, and the Two Row Wampum treaty.
Across what is today known as Canada, a portion of Turtle Island, many are occupying lands that were originally stolen from Indigenous peoples. This history has caused inter-generational trauma, of which we continue to bear witness. At Life Voice we actively strive for reconciliation through right relationship, speaking out against oppression & racism, practicing environmental stewardship, and contributing to systemic change through education, advocacy and the seeking of diverse perspectives. This is our living document.
Miigwetch to Indigenous artist, Jessie Buchanan, for sharing her gift, wisdom, and insight with the world through her art. Please watch the above video to see more of her art, and learn about the vital importance of land acknowledgements. You can visit Jessie’s website for additional resources.
